- The owner Mr Prabhakar Desai, now in his late 70s, had come to Mumbai from Ratnagiri in the Malvan coast as a teenager. Before opening the restaurant he worked as a coolie, as a plumber and then a building contractor! He later helped open a high school and a college. He has taught the recipes of the dishes served here to the kitchen staff
- The coconuts used in the food here are delivered daily from Desai's farm in Ratnagiri
- The fish used here is bought from Sassoon Docks and is from local waters. The monsoon months are an exception when fish, supplied from other parts of India, is bought from Crawford Market
