Family style restaurants are dime a dozen in a vast city like Mumbai. Every second lane and market is crawling with a string of eateries tailor-made for families and large groups of diners. There might be nothing which may separate the eatery from one another besides exceptional food, but some restaurants anyway manage to stand out due to their flawless reputation plus attractive gimmicks. Local families favour a handful of restaurants in the city and each family has their own favourites but one name is common in every family list i.e., ‘Sigree’. Sigree is an ideal family style restaurant that gives its diners not only lip-smacking food but also affordable prices. It is placed at Platinum Techno Park in Vashi, an area brimming with offices which in turn brings a drove of office-goers during lunch time.
Majority of family style restaurants are either multi-cuisine or Indian. Sigree happens to practice a menu which is a delightful mix of North-Indian and Mughlai dishes. One can already guess the abundance of curries and kebabs on this menu so if you need a curry fix, this is your place. With a glass of cucumber & curry leaf tang, wade into the menu starting with the appetizers. First course looks like, multani chaat, raan-e-sigree, paneer Rawalpindi, kandhari seekh kebab, malai pudina tandoori aloo, lasooni jhinga, chutneywali Makai seekh, gosht galouti, chowk ki tikki, dhuandhar lal murgh tikka, paneer tikka harimirch and dakshini mahi tikka. Sigree is one of the few Indian restaurants that pays deep attention to its bread section. Opt for a multani paratha or olive chilli naan to mop up the curries. Murgh tikka lababdar, benarasi malai kofta and paneer makhanwala are their bestsellers.
When you come upon the desserts section set aside your diet charts and indulge freely into Sigree’s sweet fare. There is so many decadent desserts on the menu including, sizzling brownie with ice cream, malai kulfi, gulab jamun, chenna ka malpua, apple jalebi with rabri and shakurewali malai phirni. Sigree’s buffets are well-known amongst the regulars. It is usually the first thing they opt for when they drop in for a bite. Interiors of Sigree are neatly and smartly decorated. Formal dining tables are added to the scene to encourage proper dining. The ambience is tasteful, good-looking and wonderfully airy. Sigree is not too expensive and is totally value-for-money.
