At Powai, Central Mumbai lies a lovely little restaurant which has earned a place on my bucket list. Located at Transocean house, Lake Boulevard, is this adorable place that goes by the name of ‘Mirchi And Mime’. The interesting name is the good enough reason to check it out especially when they actually meant it. This is the first restaurant in Mumbai to hire hearing and speech impaired staff hence the name. You might think that conveying your order may be difficult but they have an easy solution for it. The restaurant has created hand signs on the menu to order a specific dish which simplifies the whole process. Along with the delicious food you will also walk away with a crash course in sign language. Let’s talk about decoration now. The décor suits the light and airy space with usage of antique kitchen gadgets and white metal lamps hanging from the ceiling. Smartly furnished with neutral furniture the space looks quite artistic.
The food that is being served at Mirchi And Mime is casual eclectic. The Indian dishes are prepared with a twist and are presented on beautiful platters. Quail and quail eggs are a rare delicacy in the city so the foodies enjoy them at Mirchi And Mime with lot of love. The lobster nihari is a must have dish. Begin the dining experience with hot soups and salads such as, Kashmiri nalli shorba, currimbhoy egg salad, turnip soup, kaffir rasam and pear & rocket salad. Appetizer section brings to you paneer bhurji roll, bon bon fish cake, tandoori baby potatoes, chicken lollipops, mushroom galouti, jumbo prawn in seafood jus, kothimbir vadi, amritsari fish tikka, baby parwal kebab, pathar paneer, corn-off-the-cob bhel, pan-tossed calamari, shakarkand chaat, goat’s cheese peppers, white pepper tikka and tandoori prawn & fish seekh.
Order your main course from their curries and biryani section. They cook sensational keema kaleji, raw mango prawn curry, dahi kofta, tariwala chicken, fish chettinad, nilgiri green curry, chorizo & sausage chilli fry, rotary club fish n chips, gucchi biryani, madras mutton curry, thalappakatti mutton biryani, smoked dal, Nehru place paneer methi makhani and cooker-wala desi kukad. Team the mains with jaituni brown rice, naan, paratha and brun pao. The chef even has some set menus for a hassle free wine and dine. Sweet dishes, desi cheese cake, eton mess, coconut crème brulee and fresh apple crumble will make your day. Not very expensive Mirchi And Mime will impress you with its unique concept and great food.
