Last week as a group of friends got together, we all agreed that we were craving for some sushi so we put together our heads to search for the ideal Japanese place to suit our needs. We were sure we wanted a low-key affair that is not too heavy on pockets yet is authentic too. After hours of research we bumped across this highly reviewed eatery that was winning so much of accolades. And wonder of all – it was budget-friendly. That seemed to clinch the matter for us. We found ‘Kofuku’ to be a delightful discovery, which satisfied our dining fantasies on all levels. You will find Kofuku perched on the sixth floor of Suburbia Mall on Linking Road, Bandra West, which is a buzzing locality all week long. Kofuku’s claim to fame was its affordable priced Japanese fare available in the suburbs.
At Kofuku you can be assured to find authentic Japanese food for reasonable prices served in a pleasing chic background. The owners are not Japanese expats but that doesn’t make an iota of difference to its quality. City’s Japanese sector loves dining here regularly, a fact that is self-explanatory. Begin with, dumpling soup, tofu salad, tuna tataki, squid tempura, skewer breaded chicken, yaki gyouza, okonomiyaki, rock corn tempura, edamame, hirame karage, salmon carpaccio, seafood kaki age, ebi tempura, spring onion pancakes and sushi sashimi. Kofuku’s main course is an eclectic selection consisting, fish teppanyaki, asparagus tempura roll, sake maki, seafood hot pot, miso ramen, kaisen-don, balinesse curry, salmon teriyaki, mapo tofu, tofu black bean sauce, spicy Korean chicken, tofu teppan yaki steak, katsu ni, vegetable in laksha sauce and kakuni pork.
Someone with a Japanese taste buds will have a gala time wading through the menu. Kofuku ends the menu on a sweet note by offering you some surprisingly tasty desserts such as, mochi ice cream, dorayaki recipe, green tea ice cream, dango, chocolate molten cake, Kofuku special dessert, panna cotta delight and tiramisu. What used to be Firangipani is now Kofuku and it’s a hot favourite with the city’s Japanese expats. From the windows of Kofuku you get an amazing view of the city. Interiors are completely wooden and the dining space is divided into two areas, one is formal and other is traditional Japanese floor-seating style. Rice paper screens are placed between to split the areas into cosy nooks.
