Living in Mumbai has bought out every gourmet dream of ours in technicolour, especially where meat in concerned. We have our own pet places to go to whenever craving for something carnivorous hits us. And if you ask around one name will pop up more than any other in gourmet circles, ‘IMBISS’. The restaurant has over three outlets in Mumbai but the one in Colaba is much more spacious and better looking. As busy as they are, IMBISS doesn’t believe in reservations, so if you want to bag a table then go early. But if you want to save yourself the headache, simply take advantage of their home delivery service.
IMBISS is a carnivore’s haven. Their menu presents a smorgasbord of cuisines, European and Continental, with special preference being paid to German cuisine. Take your fill of sausages and schnitzels at IMBISS, the menu is overflowing with them. While you’re at it have a beer, after all that’s what Germans are known for, to go with the starters. Dig into, slimjims, spicy dried beef jerky, special creamy bratwurst, snail sausage, hunter schnitzel, spicy sausage & cheese salad, weisswurst, brats & pretzels, ox tail stew, pork spare ribs, German style buffalo wings, sausage poppers and crumbled eggs. To fill your appetite look into their main course selection featuring, Danish pork chop, braised beef cheek, roast beef sandwich, fish pie with smoked bacon, guinea fowl in wine sauce, roast tongue, blood sausage haggis, chorizo rice, ham burger, rabbit terrine and prawns with garlic & rosemary.
There is not much for vegetarians but for meat lovers the variety is breath-taking. Visit with an appetite, you will need it. As far as desserts are concerned, there are few cakes on offer but you don’t want to waste your appetite on desserts. It’s the main course you should save your space for. Designed in a long hallway, IMBISS opens in a vast space which is good-looking and comfortable. Solid wooden tables and chairs furnishes the dining room, which seems casual and relaxing at a glance. Patches of exposed brick walls peeks through the plastered white walls, giving the room a rustic earthy appeal. IMBISS is affordable too, which only adds to its popularity.

- Chicken is not considered a meat here, so the focus is mainly on pork and beef
- The chorizo fried rice is their best dish. It is filling and is served with a quail egg along with some lettuce leaves, but mainly lots of chorizo and flavoured rice
