When in Mumbai do not miss visiting this most iconic restaurant - Gaylord
10 Sep, 2021 by Simran SalujaGaylord is a place that emits class and has a traditional vibe; it's nothing less than a jewel of Bombay.
The place has been winning hearts and satisfying stomach of everyone visiting here since 1956. It's not one of the oldest restaurant and is still doing amazing. Gaylord was established in 1956 by Pishori Lal Lamba and Igbal Ghai, two Delhi-based food entrepreneurs who had also established the Kwality restaurant chain in Delhi. Gaylord’s charm and wholesomeness is jointly shared by its elegant seating arrangement and of course, its delicious food.
The moment step into Gaylord, you will feel the difference between the old-world charm and the new modern interiors. They have kept the interiors, the plating, and everything the same. They have not evolved with the trend. Sometimes not following the trend is a good thing, as it helps one in standing out in the crowd.
This casual dining restaurant serves cuisines like - North Indian, Continental, and European. This is one place which I'm sure has had three to four generations relish the delectable food, and experience their on-point service.
When it comes to decor it’s all white and vintage charm, Gaylord is one of the most legendary restaurants in the Mumbai food scene. The service here is always warm and the food is always lip-smacking. Located in Churchgate, this restaurant holds a special place in everyone hearts.
Known for its Butter Chicken, Paneer Tikka, Biryani, Rogan Josh, Blue Cheese Naan and Kaali Dal, all-in-all amazing and fulfilling North Indian fare, this is the place one goes to when one wants a slice of nostalgia.
One of the most striking features of this restaurant is the patio with wrought iron seating. The entire outdoor patio gives a Parisian vibe, where one can sit and sip on coffee while they watch something. The inside area is beautiful with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and white linen.
This place is a true icon, it has been the go-to restaurant of many Bollywood celebrities. In fact, the restaurant has also been awarded the Best Restaurant in Western Region award by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Being more than 60 years old, Gaylord has stood the test of time and is listed as one of the most legendary places to eat at in the city. And we hope it continues to uphold its legacy in the years to come.
