Enjoy Cantonese style Chinese food at this restaurant

The last quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020 has seen quite a few national and international brands of restaurants opening in the city. There was Indigo Delicatessen, Lord Of The Drinks and now, we have a brand new Chinese contender in Kolkata. Kolkata has a strong foothold for Chinese food and it is well accepted.

After months of talks in the grapevine, Royal China Kolkata has opened at Forum Courtyard Mall on the 4th floor.

Kolkata is the fourth stop for Royal China in India and right from the taste of the food to the ingredients used, the standards match across. The restaurant has a charming ambience with glistening gold-rimmed lamps, gold-framed artwork, muted grey and brown pastels in the furniture, and the wallpaper. The menu at Royal China Kolkata is well structured with several options for vegetarians. The style of cooking is typical Cantonese Chinese with stir-fries, use of dried red chillies, less greasy and the use of a lot of fresh ingredients.

Royal China Kolkata has a very attractive and exclusive dim sum menu. You name it and it is there.

Chicken and Chive Dumpling

Steamed Wonton Soya Chili

From Prawn and Chive to Seafood Dumpling with Ginger and Chilli Oil, Chicken and Chive Dumpling, Poached Chicken with Chili Soya, Char Siu Pork Bao to Truffle and Edamame Dumplings, Black Mushroom Dumplings and more. Baked, grilled, steamed or fried, there is an option for everyone.

There is an interesting array of appetisers, especially the Shredded Smoked Chicken and Potato Sesame ToastShredded Chicken has a nice crunch with a hint of smokiness and tossed in a balanced seasoning. Potato Sesame Toast is a soft bed of mashed potato coated in crispy and nutty white sesame seeds. It is a knockout of a dish, even for meat lovers. If you are in Royal China Kolkata, these two appetisers are highly recommended.

The main course at Royal China Kolkata takes you through a variety of options in all kinds of proteins and vegetables. Kung Pao Potatoes with Okra is quite an unputdownable dish with a play of different textures and a mildly flavoured sauce.

Chicken with dried Red Chilli

Chicken with dried Red Chilli is a highly recommended dish which comes with copious amounts of dried red chillies, albeit not spicy but high on flavour. One cannot go wrong with a Black Bean Sauce and the fish does really well in it.

Hakka Noodles

Pair them with some smoky Hakka Noodles or some Vegetable Fried Rice with water chestnuts and tossed with a lot of butter and you are bound to be pleased.

Chocolate Mud Cake

Banana Toffee Fritters

Finish your meal on a high with a rich Chocolate Mud Cake and some Banana Toffee Fritters.
