Lord of the Drinks Opens in Kolkata
Tallest bar, signature cocktails, global food and more!
16 Jan, 2020 by Madhushree Basu Roy2020 saw the opening of another national brand in Kolkata and, this time it was Lord of the Drinks. This lounge-bar has been in the news in recent times for its swanky interiors, global food to please all and some top-notch cocktails. This talk of the town-lounge bar has opened up on the top floor of South City Mall in Kolkata.
Other than the food and the drinks, the biggest attraction is the 24ft long bar and the 40 ft tall bar back. It is meant to stun you as you set foot into LOTD, as it is commonly known as.
Like the interiors, the menu too is standardised across all the locations. Having said that, with every opening, they also take into account the latest trends in the global food scenario and inculcate that in the menu.
The bar is stocked with the best of domestic and foreign spirits. And, the cocktail menu has exotic offerings in fresh and contemporary flavours. The food menu is paired accordingly with global cuisines while keeping in touch with local ingredients and seafood delicacies, which are much favoured in the city of joy.
Kolkata has, for long, really favoured sizzlers. The old restaurants from Park Street have most of their clientele ordering a plate or two of the sizzle. Keeping that in mind, LOTD Kolkata has introduced an attractive range of sizzlers. Their signature dishes like Paneer Khurchan Quesadilla, Prawns Sukkah, Malwani Crab Curry, Gilafi Kebab, and Wild Mushroom Dim Sum, nevertheless make the mark. And if not anything, the Prawn Sukkah is a must-try dish.
Quinoa Salad
For a healthy start, one could go with an organic Red Quinoa Beet Salad with Orange Segments, Pickled Beets, Asparagus, Crunchy Lettuce and a heady dose of nutty flavour from the rocket leaves. What is interesting is the texture at the bottom from the Quinoa. And altogether, it is bound with a refreshing Honey Mustard Vinaigrette. It acts as a good start as well as a palate cleanser in between courses and even non-vegetarians with a discerning palate may find it surprisingly comforting.
Tangra Chilli Paneer, Mezze Platter and Chilli Shitake Mushrooms are a few noteworthy vegetarian appetisers.
Tandoori Chicken and Cheese Balls
However, Tandoori Chicken and Cheese Balls in the non-vegetarian appetiser section is a must-try. Lemon sized balls of spicy Tandoori Chicken mashed up with cheese and crumb coated, deep-fried and served with a chilli mayo is quite a favourable combination with your choice of spirit.
Mustard Crusted Grilled Bhekti
Mustard Crusted Grilled Bhekti - perfectly marinated and well balanced with flaky and soft fish is highly recommended. There is a tapas section to dim sums, pizzas, pastas and more to choose from.
The Signature cocktails are perhaps more exciting than the food and better executed too. Barrel-aged Negroni, Lavender Sour, My 18th Birthday, Purple Rain, and Butter Beer are some of the cocktails to try out.
Purple Rain
Purple Rain has a mellow taste of elderflower with some blue pea infused gin, has an eyebrow-raising look with blue colour and an appealing sweet and sour taste.
Kiwi Cucumber Collins
Lavender Sour has bourbon, lavender cordial lime juice and egg white, making it very wintery in taste and somehow reminds you one eggnog.
