Four Japanese Eateries in Chennai
Authentic Meals from the Land of The Rising Sun
24 Apr, 2016 by Amit PatnaikChennai is probably the best city in India to sample Japanese food, with a bevy of expat-run eateries catering to the sizeable Japanese workforce in the city. Here are four places you should visit for an authentic Japanese meal.
Dahlia, Nungambakkam
The oldest Japanese eatery in Chennai, Dahlia has been quietly dishing out meals to expats and enthusiasts alike for the last two decades. Located in the decrepit Kaveri Complex, it can be hard to find; but is a must visit for any food aficionado in the city. Go for their tempura and soba in broth and sashimi.
Sora Jima, The Accord Metropolitan Hotel, T Nagar
New kid on the block, Sora Jima is truly an island in the sky. Enjoy the evening with a mesmerising view of the city as you feast upon Chef Katayama’s impeccable sushi.
Aki Bay, Velachery
Touted to be India’s only authentic ramen bar, Aki Bay wins you over with its heartwarming bowls of noodles. The effervescent Satoshi Akimoto will gladly help you discover Japan’s national obsession at his cosy little eatery. Try the miso and chin tai ramen.
Momoyama, Alwarpet
Just off the popular TTK Road in Alwarpet, Momoyama is a great place to take friends unfamiliar with Japanese food. The wooden enclosure-style covers are great for small groups and you can opt for their meal sets to sample a variety of dishes.
