26 Mar, 2019 by Roxanne BamboatSeafood lovers are always on the hunt for good crabs. It is the only crustacean folks are willing to trek all across the city to devour. The joy of tucking into a crab cooked and spiced perfectly with your bare hands is a feeling most meat lovers understand perfectly. These are some of the restaurants in Mumbai that we think are a must visit for some incredible crab dishes.
Gajalee - While a lot of restaurants have had their glory days and then lost a bit of their shine, Gajalee has been consistently delighting its diners with their incredible array of seafood dishes. The king here on this menu is undoubtedly their crabs and while you can eat it them in all sorts of preparations like Masala Crab, Green Chilli Sauce Crab and even a Schezuan Crab, it is the Tandoori Crab that they are really known for.

Ministry Of Crab - Colombo's famous Ministry Of Crab is the latest dining phenomenon in the city and as the name states, it is the best place for crabs. A meal here is steep and perhaps a little more than your average fine dine but the food is excellent. They serve Mud Crabs from the Indian coastline and have them in about 10 different sizes (and you pay accordingly) giving you far more choice than the average restaurant. Garlic Chilli Crab, Pepper Crab, Baked Crab and Crab Curry are some of the favourites on the menu.
Mahesh Lunch Home - What started in the 70's as a humble seafood restaurant is today one of the most frequented restaurants. There are multiple outlets across the city and while their butter garlic or koliwada prawns are superb, it is the crabs everyone wants. Crab Ghee Roast, Butter Garlic Pepper Crab and Crab in Pondicherry Curry are just some of their various preparations. You can choose from fresh catch and have them bring the crab to you so you can inspect it before choosing your meal.

The Bombay Canteen, Lower Parel, South Mumbai - It is not ideal to include The Bombay Canteen in this roundup because, despite the amazing Indian food they serve, there is actually no crabs on the regular menu. However, come the weekend, it is brunch time and that is when Chef Thomas pulls out his incredible Kerala style Crab Mappas Curry. It is a whopper of a crab and ideal if you are 2 or 3 people happy to share. It might be the only crab dish currently but it is such a stunner we could not help but include it. The crab is only available on their Sunday Brunch menu.

Bastian, Linking Road, Bandra West, Western Suburbs - Most seafood restaurants in the city tend to be Malvani or Manglorean. This is the first restaurant with a host of seafood dishes with distinct international flavours. The popular choice when it comes to crab is Chef Kelvin's mums classic Singapore Style Crab which comes in a luscious spicy sauce. There is a lot more to choose from including a Spicy Crab Thermidor, a tempura soft shell crab or even a crab in a classic south east Asian coconut curry. The restaurant is almost always packed and is incredibly popular specially for their crabs which are a refreshing change from the usual suspects.
