To enter Taipan is like entering a time capsule transporting you to 1980’s. Décor is straight out of a classy oriental magazine published in 20th century. Admiration over food brings together a bunch of regulars to Taipan for years. Their love for Chinese food is helped by the fine skills of Chef Jian who lends authenticity to the menu. The ingredients transported from China are of top most quality made more enticing with the chef’s talent. Taipan’s dim sum selection gets lots of attention from the customers. It is one of the most ordered feature on the menu. For appetizers they serve crisp spinach, salt & pepper squid, golden fried prawns, vegetable spring rolls, lotus root honey chilli, luo song soup, Szechwan hot & sour, batter fried fish finger and Cantonese style roast duck. Main course includes eggplant with Szechwan sauce, wok fried lobster with XO sauce, mapo silken tofu with chicken, bay of Bengal bekti, wok fried fish with sweet & sour sauce, steamed fish in garlic sauce, barbequed peking duck, wok fried chicken in kung pao sauce and tenderloin in black pepper sauce.
Rice and noodle have been given attention too. Go for steamed jasmine rice, pan fried noodles with vegetables, duck & prawn hawking fried rice, stir fried noodles with seafood and egg fried rice. To commence your Taipan experience look into their dessert section. They will delight you with chilled mango pudding, sesame & almond dumplings, cranberry jelly & chocolate steam cake, date pancake, deep fried ice cream and toffee banana with sesame. To enhance the Chinese flavours Taipan keeps a range of speciality teas like hunan green, green Sencha and newby jasmine tea. Taipan is expensive but the flawless service, great food and awesome view compensates for it.
