‘Ssence’. The name itself doesn’t mean anything but say it in front of a foodie and his eyes will light up. Don’t confuse with the spelling. It is pronounced as essence. Ssence, housed in one of the oldest hotels in Delhi, The Suryaa, is a place you go to for variety and exceptional dessert spread. It is fortunately one of the few places that have it all. Ambience, Service and superb Food. An all day dining operation Ssence surpasses its reputation in terms of food and authenticity. The interiors are very swanky and stylish. The timeless appeal of the restaurant gains admiration of its regulars and in house guests continuously. Chef from Lucknow hails from the renowned family of Tunda Miyan, who invented the delicacy, Tunde kebab. So expect outstanding biryanis, kormas and of course the famous tunde kebab. From the moment you step through the door you will be treated like family by the staff. They are friendly, cheerful and cordial.
As Ssence is around the clock diner it is like revolving door around here. The guests or even locals pour in any time of the day in search of serene ambience and great food, both of which is provided here. The menu is vast and covers multiple regions all over the world. You will find mainly European, Indian and American cuisine featured here. The restaurant has a decent spread of buffet but their a la carte is not bad at all. The breakfast covers usual waffles, pancakes, stuffed parathas, eggs, French toast, fruit bowl, salmon sunny side, chole bhature, idli etc. Their appetizers cover jerk chicken, calamari fritters, nicoise salad, feta cigar rolls, kakori kebab, amber duck consommé, paneer tikka, tandoori jhinga, mushroom croquettes and seafood coriander soup. Then there are dishes you can savour anytime of the day. Things like, juicy burgers, sandwiches, kathi rolls, pastas, thin crust pizzas, risotto and paella.
For stuffier mains Ssence serves BBQ pork ribs, lamb shank tagine, rib eye steak, gosht rogan josh, paneer khas makhani, nasi goreng, Norwegian pink salmon, jambo scampi, nalli ka salan and kadai prawns. The restaurant’s dessert spread is impressive. Amongst lemon cheese cake, green apple and walnut crumble, green apple jalebi, mint & chocolate opera and signature choco-loco, they also prepare sugar free and gluten free desserts. Dining at Ssence comes with a hefty price tag. But the ambience and fantastic menu more than compensates for it.
