What happens when a businessman meets two Frenchmen? They brainstorm and pool their resources and give birth to a wonderful French restaurant Rara Avis. At greater Kailash-2, New delhi Rara Avis has opened doors for us to French gastronomy. The three partners have done something right and converted the face of French cuisine in the city. Now we don’t have to wonder what French food tastes like without going to Paris. The stylish interiors is helped by leather sofas and lovely yellow lightbulbs cosying up the place. Subtly coloured picture frames on the wall reminds us of artsy paris. But the feature that pulls the majority of the crowd is the rooftop sitting spread overlooking the cityscape. Each table is lighted by a small lamp to create intimacy. The whole atmosphere romanticises the air and that makes it perfect for a date or a cosy chat. Yet France is about food and Rara avis is serious about it too.
To introduce your mouth for gala feast to come snails in garlic butter, meat terrine, goat cheese on croutons, classic French onion soup are served to you. Appetizers like chicken salad, cheese quiche, prawns cocktails, carpaccio, seafood soup, smoked duck, croquettes, duck liver mousse and smoke salmon platter are prepared by trying authentic French recipes. In mains the delicious soul food beouf bourguignon is stewed here. If you are a Julia child fan then you won’t need explanation. Stuffed crab, veal tenderloin, pan fried trout, vegetables gratin, duck confit, duck breast with orange sauce, turkey breast with mushroom sauce, panfried pumpkin are traditionally French recipes cooked by a French chef. The grilled platter with meat, fish, beef, lamb chops, vegetable skewers and pork chops are best chosen for large party of friends. One of the French partners of Rara avis is a chef himself so the authenticity of the cuisine is retained. So that means awesome dessert section.
Crème brulee, tiramisu, lemon tart, chocolate cake, figs marinated on port wine are divine. Finish the dessert with great coffee to maximize the flavours. If you are in the mood of wine then the house stores great labels. Do ask the staff about them. Gin, whisky, bourbon, vodka, tequila, cognac, brandy and cocktails are served here. Choose this restaurant for pure French food made by a French hand. Rara avis is only moderately expensive somewhere in the lines of seventeen hundred for two.
