The Westin, Gurgaon is beautiful property with great eating establishments on the premises. Just off the courtyard enclosed in a smaller building is Prego, a fab Italian serving restaurant. Made out of full blown glass walls the restaurant is classy and trendy. Prego’s reputation precedes it by miles, singing about the ambience and of course the delectable earthy food. The easy elegance of the place attracts lot of clients. Especially corporates from overseas, locals and couples wanting to borrow the dimly lit courtyard as their dinner date. The ambience is relaxed and yet smart as expected of a hotel eatery. The rows of jars filled with dried pastas of different shapes arranged neatly with logs of fire wood stacked underneath gives the restaurant acute resemblance to Italian country kitchen. At night the pool side view with delectable ravioli and a glass of wine defines the perfect evening at Prego.
The menu offers both cold and hot starters. Carpaccio, Caesar salad, bruschetta, antipasto misto and crostini di pane are featured under cold section. Move to hot starters for sautéed prawns, grilled sea bass, deep fried squid and wild mushroom flan. Some delicious hot soups are offered too on the menu so they will suit you on winter evenings. In pastas match your choice of pasta with your favourite sauce. Be it Fettuccini in clams white wine sauce or rigatoni in lamb ragout. In risottos opt for king prawn’s creamy risotto. Hand crafted pastas like potato gnocchi, vegetable lasagne, ricotta cheese and spinach ravioli are a must have for they are crafted by the chefs especially for you. The wood fire oven pizzas topped with flavourful sauce and lovely toppings are heart and soul of Prego. The mains are mostly about seafood and meat based dishes. Go for salt crusted sea bass, grilled pork chops, roasted chicken and parmesan crumbed veal.
Desserts or as the Italians call it Dolci are the final page on a superb rustic menu. Here too Prego has impressed us with the selection of tiramisu, Prego’s famous chocolate mud pie, hazelnut chocolate from turin, pear and cognac crepe and ice creams. Cheese platter is served too with marmalade and homemade bread selection. Prego is the place to visit if you have serious Italian craving. The hearty rustic and authentic cuisine at Prego will leave you desiring for more. Though a bit expensive the restaurant is high in quality and ambience.
