Going old school with pubs has become a major trend in gastronomy world and by bringing back the vintage times we have hit upon a jackpot. But here we are talking about this fantastic chain of pubs that has burst upon Delhi’s night scene. When we say old school, forget about the British waterholes or Raj era inspired old-fashioned bars. We are talking about going back centuries in western timeline when fields were strewn with wars and sword carrying warriors. We are talking about the times of 16th and 17th century in Scotland, Ireland and Highlands, with thick unruly castles and armies of armour plated warriors. ‘Lord of the Drinks’ brings back those times with full unbound glory, by introducing a primitive theme to the swanky lanes of Delhi. The pub finds a place at the outer circle of Connaught Place, overlooking the central part area from the first floor.

The pub remains open from noon to midnight, which is a rarity in Connaught Place area. The pub has become quite popular over the time and boasts of numerous outlets dotted all over the city. They have taken the medieval theme and played it in their own way by including some subtle modern aspects. Walls are coarse stony like that of a castle, mounted with battle shields and vintage swords, while the ceiling is a network of heavy wooden beams running across the sprawling room. Windows are closed off with metal screen and draped with a dark coloured curtain. Overhead hangs a wrought iron chandelier made out of bolts. A pair of armour plated warriors’ stands guard flanking the doorway and if you move a little further, you will come upon a spread of plush leather sofas.

The vibe at Lord of the Drinks is distinctly antique, intimate and yet hopping. They keep things alive with bursts of live music and a lively chirpy ambience that comes alive in the evening. The terrace is the best place to slip into on pleasant evenings. The pub is expensive but worth it. Dabble into their menu which offers a wonderful variety in Italian, Chinese, European, North-Indian and American cuisine. Accompanied by their signature cocktails start on, corn & mushroom tart shell, chicken cheese kidney bean fries, fish tikka, chipotle prawns, pulled chicken mini crostini, sesame chilli lamb and bao. They offer an equally lavish main course menu featuring pasta, curries, Thai gravies and even some Mexican fare.
