America meets Punjab is how you define Johnny Rockets at Ambience mall, Gurgaon The place is a classic American diner style with an open café design. Bright white light and practical seating with ketchup mustard tissues at the centre and all. The staff is cheerful and quick on their feet. Walls are mounted by 1950’s retro pictures. The café is small and designed to grab a quick burger and glimpse into vintage American diner. For starters beside classic American fries and onion rings, masala fries, nachos and chicken chilli bowl are served. Chicken wings and mozzarella sticks will make great munchers for the lay between of shopping spree. The food is well presented in attractive setting. But the burgers are the star of the show. They are juicy and scrumptious enough to make you dream about them at midnight. For small appetites or figure conscious people sliders and salads are dished out. Asian salad and chicken salad are some examples of their green section.
Now we enter the burger territory. The classics of American scene are registered here. The Houston, the original, route 66, nacho maxx, spicy Texan, also the indianised Divine delhi with tandoori spiced chicken supreme and NH-1 with roasted spices infused lamb patty all are given here for your pleasure. The rocket wraps are served with fries or side salad, so does Philly cheesy steak. Tenderloin philly steak and paneer philly steak are the ideal one plate meal. Mediterranean sandwich which is basically focaccia with grilled vegetables and feta. The chicken dog (read: hotdog) is on menu too. Pastas are a part of the menu with burritos. Kids have a special section all to themselves. Mini burgers and mini hotdogs with their choice of beverages.
Original shakes & malts like Hershey, strawberry, banana, coffee, mocha fudge make excellent coolers on hot afternoons. The desserts of Johnny rockets represent the ultimate temptation. Apple pie, baked cheesecake, waffle, brownie sundae and super sundae. Oh My God! Delicious. It’s a one stop calorie express. And the best part is the café/diner doesn’t even cost much. In seven fifty bucks go home extra full and having lived the American diner experience. Oh! One more attraction of johnny rocket. The staff’s dance jig is foot tapping good. Don’t miss it!
- The music is 1950’s pop – Dion and the Belmonts, The Shirelles etc. ---- but when it suddenly fast-forwards to funk, this means that the staff are getting ready to dance. The dance is fun and much loved by patrons whose shoulders start moving to the music on autopilot
- The original Johnny Rockets burger may have been great but the mutton version is tough. Far better to have the masala version, named after the National Highway. (They should have called it Route Sixty Sikh)
- The menu goes beyond burgers to include hot dogs (chicken, of course) and pastas in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian (chicken!) flavours
