Did you have any idea that a vibrant and quirky Japanese restaurant is tucked away in the lodhi road interiors. Between tailors and drycleaners lies a one of a kind Japanese themed joint. The place is visited often by gastro addicts and college students with acquired taste of authentic Japanese food. Guppy by Ai is unique in name itself. It is definitely memorable. Lodhi colony has been invaded by Japanese visitors and their local friends to remind them selves of home cooked food. The restaurant is designed to relax and linger over tempuras. Owners have used life size Japanese figurines to pep up the place by hanging them from the ceiling. Anime illustrations are painted on the wall to authenticate the place. And it all works. Reminds me on nippo. The restaurant is surprisingly airy and washed with pastel colours.
The restaurant has extended lunch and dinner menu separately so you are bombarded with options. In lunch they serve miso soup, seafood salad, mushroom gyoza, crispy soft shell crab, pork belly, tuna tataki and rock corn tempura. Sushi and sashimi is served too in most enticing way. Lunch mains have exotic teppanyaki vegetables, katsu curry rice, black cod, tenderloin cubed steak. In desserts you will find amazing blueberry crepes, apple and prune pie. The dinner menu starts with chashu ramen, beetroot & avocado tartar, takikomi rice, guppy house salad, asparagus tempura roll, spicy tuna roll, sushi platter, and guppy’s famous spider rolls. For next stop grilled tomato & scarmoza, grilled jumbo prawns, karashi vegetable casserole, garlic fried rice and prawn tempura udon. Sweet time will find red velvet cake, green tea & chocolate cake and much more. Steam buns and skewers are on the menu too.
No Japanese menu is complete without their national drink sake. Beside sake champagne, sparkling wine, guppy’s house concoctions like wasabi cocktails made of wasabi, gin and lime juice. Aperitifs, scotch, rum, vodka, beer, mocktails, Japanese tea, coffee are served too. Guppy by ai has set menu too so if you are confused then choose that to taste everything. The service of the restaurant is efficient and attentive. It’s a good place to have candle light dinners in lodhi road. So visit this unusual place soon without bothering about money. It is affordable and not too expensive.
