Who doesn’t dream of an Italian holiday? The azure blue sea, golden terracotta tiled houses gleaming in sun and miles and miles of a smooth white beach. While New Delhi may not compete with such scenic pleasures, it can give you an Italian reprieve of sorts. Step away from your desks and head over to ‘Amalfi’, a charming little eatery tucked in the heart of South Delhi. Amalfi may not be an Italian trattoria on the coast but you can still bask in the sunshine drinking wine and munching on a pizza. Somewhat of an old favourite, the restaurant still stands tall and proud in the buzzing hustle-bustle of South Delhi. It’s perched on the 1st Floor, M-82, Greater Kailash (GK) 2, New Delhi. Amalfi is a lovely dining spot for couples and friends.
What makes Amalfi stand apart from other establishments on Greater Kailash belt is the food, which we find to be sublime. Amalfi is not new to the dining scene yet it can still hold it’s own fort through light, delicious, authentic Italian food. If you like your Italian food to be a little rustic then this is the place for you. Uncork a bottle of pinot noir to enjoy the antipasti. Whet your appetite with, insalata Amalfi, calamari fritti, soufflé alla gorgonzola, griglia di gamberi con salsa di limone, platto crostini, minestrone, insalata caprese, pollo al pesto and carpaccio di manzo con pecorino. Chase it up with, lasagna al forno con ragu, filetto di manzo alla griglia, risotto frutti di mare, pizza peperoni piccante, crespelle di broccoli e cipolla, cannelloni ripieni di pollo, Amalfi’s chicken burger and tortellini ripieni di ricotta e spinaci.
The variety Amalfi offers is superb. You will have to come regularly to try everything on the menu. Top it all off with an exciting array of decadent Italian desserts such as, fondente al cioccolato, bunet, panna cotta, affogato, tiramisu and an assortment of gelato. Amalfi is favored by couples or those in need of a dreamy atmosphere. The indoor dining section is not much to boast of. Soft white walls sets off the dark wooden furniture beautifully. Room is casual and simply furnished but what steals the spotlight is their romantic multi-level terrace area that comes with a tinkling fountain. Surrounded by beautiful fairy lights and a breezy al fresco setting, Amalfi turns out to be quite a steal. Prices are high.
