When in need for a flawless dining experience, always pick a place that is known for its legendary reputation, even though you have to drop a hefty packet for the privilege. Trust us, nothing can beat the quality. There are some places that are synonymous to elegance and excellence, both provided in abundance on each visit. Taj hotels are big-wigs in the gastronomic industry due to their superior quality restaurants and an affluence that simply dominates the scene. Chennai’s Taj Club House at Thousand Lights area is home to a fantastic restaurant called ‘Beyond Indus’. This fine dining space is designed to reflect the sophistication and brilliance of the hotel. It is one of the few places that has everything going for them. It’s much sought after by the upper crust who likes everything to be stylish and posh.
The fine interiors of Beyond Indus are enough to charm anyone. The restaurant projects a very stylish and striking image, slightly different from your regular high end establishments. Although the room is generously spacious, the thick marble walls gives a closed in feel. Glossy tiled walls are set off by rich jewelled coloured furnishings in deep lustrous wine coloured upholstery. Formal tables are laden with beautiful crystal ware, gleaming under the modern hidden lights. Ambience is formal yet relaxed and very classy. If you are looking for some alone quiet time then ask your server to seat you at one of those corner tables, where you can talk in peace. Beyond Indus is eye-pleasing, refreshing, posh and contemporary looking. A stunning crystal chandelier washes the entire room in a soft golden haze, bringing out the delicate colours of the scene.
With a Taj venture you cannot go wrong where food is concerned. Menu showcases a varied and mouth-watering range of North-Indian cuisine. It is one of those expensive places to dine so keep that in mind. It’s wise to begin with appetizers like, lal mirch ka paneer tikka, paan wala tandoori chooza, chatpate aloo, gosht pasliyan, tamatar aur ajwain shorba, jhinga anardana, shalgam aur butte ki tikki, three pepper lamb seekh, palak dahi kebab and tulsi mirch tawa machli. Match a nice buttery naan or aromatic biryani to go with the curries. Sindhi seyal chicken, chena aur anjeer ke kofte, kothmiri jhinga and dal indus is exceptional. Dessert course is fit for a king, so indulge.
- Though a bit of a misnomer, the Indiyaki set meals are a great way to experience the range of food from the kitchen. Do request for something other than the grainy Parsi dairy malai kulfi for dessert though
- The kababs are quite decent, I liked the agreeable mutton seekhs and super-succulent mathaniya murg. The naans come out pretty crisp from the tandoor by default
- If you would like a quiet meal, then sit away from the clang-clang of the open kitchen at the back of the restaurant
